What Is a Convertible Well Pump?

A convertible well pump has the ability to pull water from depths of up to 70 ft. It is referred to as a “convertible” pump because it can act as both a shallow well pump for water sources up to 25 feet deep and a deep well pump for water sources up to 70 feet deep.

Convertible well pumps are installed above ground and can be connected to either a one-pipe shallow well or two-pipe deep well. They are mounted to a pressure tank, and include a watertight seal at the head of the well to prevent contamination from surface water.

Our 1 hp convertible jet pump provides a water flow of up to 16 gallons per minute. It is wired to run at 230 volts but can be easily converted to 115 volts. The pump also comes with a flow control and a pressure switch. The check valve and pressure tank are sold separately.

Convertible Jet Pump Installation

The complete installation instructions can be found in your owner’s manual. For general guidelines to prepare for installation, follow these four steps:

1. Shut off the water. Turn off your existing water pump to ensure water is not released during the installation process.
2. Drain liquids. Make sure all liquids are drained and that the discharge line is secure.
3. Check for damage. Check the existing system for worn or damaged areas.
4. Cover the well. This will help prevent contamination before you begin the installation.

Once the convertible jet pump has been installed and is pumping water from a well, run it a few times before using the water. In addition, take test samples of the water to make sure it is clear of dirt and debris and safe for household use.
